Although not having spent much time in the study of them the last few events had left Ichiro feeling the nearness of their various ancestors - be it their pride or their annoyance - and so they found the task of the Lion easier than they would have otherwise expected. Still finding a way to properly express everything non-verbally, especially while avoiding the truest deeds and duties of said ancestors as others would not understand, left the young Ishiken expending every reserve of willpower they had and, had it gone any longer, they feared what might have resulted.

[Doji Nanako]

Nanako didn't resent her ancestors: that would, of course, be blasphemous and unfilial. But she did suspect that may have had a hand in the misfortune that plagued her life.

She knew her lineage, of course. The Crane were just as fastidious about that as the Lion were. Well, maybe not as much as the Lion, but who your ancestors were came into the social calculations that made up the pecking order among the Crane, as Nanako well knew from her place usually on the lower rungs.

All that being said, she was concerned about actually writing down and reciting who her ancestors were. Blandishing the paper like that might well irritate the spirits of the paper, and she had enough to worry about!

Doubting herself to that degree showed in her subpar calligraphy and recitation.

Ikoma Ryuko seemed quite pleased with herself at listening to the adaptation of the standard Lion gempukku ceremony. Manicured eyebrows raised in almost giddy excitement that was never vocalized, as she bore witness.

"Seppun Urusai-san." She approached the young Imperial and front runner. "You did well." A bow.

As she apporached Kitsu Masaru, pride seemed to exude from her demeanor. "Kitsu Masaru-san. An excellent delivery." She bowed again, and then almost marched to the Ikoma. Her chin lifted high, her expectations met.

"Ikoma Aya-san. You do your ancestors proud. They truly smile upon you on this day." She handed over a small scroll. This listing all the descendents of Ikoma himself, down to the judge.

"That concludes the Test of the Ancestor. Dismissed." Taciturn as she addressed all the Topaz contenstants.
