Haru really had no idea why he had said that and had nothing in mind.

"Ah well, I can't remember the name or the author. It was this story about a dojo. There were sixteen students, though it follows one in particular. Each of the students are best at something, but the protagonist's seems to be merely very lucky, not skilled. The author had a slight tilt to the right in their calligraphy, fairly distinctive." he said, much to the dismay of librarians everywhere.

"Hmmmm...probably the girl with the talent for singing. While poetry is my preferred medium, she does her very best in all that she does, and always puts on a positive face no matter how difficult things become. And she has a bit of a sense of humor as well. She has a habit of guessing what people are going to say, and when they ask how she could have known that she tells them she's psychic Not that I'm that good at reading people, but the humor is very appealing to me." he admits.

"Well, landscapes do have both the benefit of moving much slower than people, and do not voice any opinions upon your painting of them." he admitted with a small smile. "But I do love painting the same scene from different seasons. The leaves of the tree as they turn colors from season to season and eventually casting them off in the Winter once more."

He continued looking for the book with no luck.

"Ah would't it be something if you did?" he mused. "But yes, eldest of three. I have two younger brothers. But simply the dynamic would feel different I would think. My younger brothers look up to me, but I'd assume the two of you would be more equals." he offered.

"I look up to Jiro a great deal. he is more poised than me, more centered from moment to moment where I usually only find it the moment of the strike. he is more cultured than I am and he has given me advice more than our parents combined." he smiled. "No doubt your brother have the same things to say about you. So what paths do they take, are to be bushi as well?"

"Ie" he said. "The second oldest is in training as a courtier. The third eldest will probably be sent to join the brotherhood. While we may not be as blessed as the Phoenix in regards to shugenja, it is proper to offer devotion to the Heavens."

If such is your brother's fate he should be applauded for all he will have to give up. I suspect that if I live long enough I will be one of those that is forced to retire rather than going willingly, not because I lack devotion but because I don't want to give up everyone I love."

Here it has happened daily and I have really started to hate it, everyone seems to expect and hope that I am Jiro when they see me. One of the Scorpion approached me in the market the other morning, speaking with familiarity and confidence that I was Jiro. I simply ignored them. Impolite I know but better than unleashing my frustration on someone I don't know I think."

"Although, rather than a full shaving, perhaps a topknot after you pass your gempukku? It's fairly popular style among bushi and would be more pratical for matters martial." he suggested.
