[Shiba Jiro]

"No matter what I do I will feel like I have made a mistake I think. Either that I have given up on something beautiful by not kissing you or that I am hurting something else that might otherwise be good by kissing you. From your own admission you don't want anyone to be hurt, but that implies that you want something that might cause hurt. We are in a situation of mostly my making, because of my incessant chase. But I think to go farther, we need to both say yes to the risk. We both feel a certain way. We both have to be part of the decision to move forward I think."

He hated it. Spelling it out. He wanted to just kiss her. He wanted to pull her into an embrace. But he couldn't choose for both of them.

"Do you have a knife?" he asks.

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"'Course I do."

She grinned, in spite of things.

"Mantis, remember?"

[Shiba Jiro]

"Then..." he guides her to a tree. Before stepping around to the other side.

Pulling out a wood carving knife of his own, he says, "A simple yes or no. Carve it in. I'll do the same. Give it some thought. Both yes, we'll see how far this can go. Either no, we'll we'll go no farther and figure out what that means. Take what time you need and ask me anything before carving."

He stabbed the blade into the tree and then stepped back.

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"First question... we just doin' one? Or are we gonna try this in stages?"

She paused.

"Cause... I think not knowin' what's it's like t'kiss you would be a regret I carry t'th'end of my days. But... I can't be doin' this sorta thing on the regular. Not to Isawa-san- an' not t'you. You two need t'make a life together. Can't have me hoverin' in th'background, like some kinda restless spirit. So. If you're talkin' tonight? I know my answer. If you're talkin' down th'line... my answer changes."

[Shiba Jiro]

"We can say just tonight, but I suspect that if I kiss you now that it's not a feeling that will really go away," he admits. "I wonder about what you think and how you feel as much as anything else. You have beauty in abundance, and I am drawn to all of it, not just what I can see with my eyes."

He pauses for a moment.

"I will be haunted, but will I be haunted by the regret of not knowing or haunted by the desire for more? Which is preferable?"

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"Ah, Jiro-kun..."

She drew her knife and set to carving.

"S'an easy one for me. Rather regret what I've done'n what I didn't do. S'who I am. And far's desire goes?"

She paused. Looked around the tree at him.

"Reckon I'm stuck with it either way."

[Shiba Jiro]

The sound of cutting could be heard from his side as he stepped closer to the tree. After a little bit, he steps back and looks at it, with a mix of anxiety and curiosity. She had basically said what she wanted already, but the inevitability of what he expected would only really hit him when he spied her answer.

He put a hand out to invite her to his side of the tree then stepped around to hers to confirm.

The word "Yes" was carved there for her to see in clear bold lines carved by his knife.

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

And on her side, also "yes."

She'd put her knife back in its sheath and stood looking at his carving.

"So. Uhm...."

[Shiba Jiro]

He stepped around the tree, and moved closer to her, taking both of her hands into his. "So."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

She squeezed his hands.

And then leaned in to... [/fade to makeout, I reckon]
