[Day 5, Early Afternoon] The Spice Must Flow (Expecting)

[Shiba Jiro]

"I'm sure if you scree up bad enough she might kill you," he says with a chuckle. "But you all climb up there in a thunderstorm? Must be exciting and a bit scary to be up on there with thunder and lightning crashing around."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"Eh, Osano-Wo's family t'us. Kinda. An' anyway, if it's a choice 'tween climbin' in a blow an' lettin' th'ship down, well... no choice at all."

[Funegao no Hirame]

"Oh, well, at least that would save the trouble of talking it out." Hirame said dryly.

"Eh, Osano-Wo's family t'us. Kinda. An' anyway, if it's a choice 'tween climbin' in a blow an' lettin' th'ship down, well... no choice at all."

"Yeah." Hirame said. "That's a lot of stuff on a ship. A lot of people think that the Mantis aren't disciplined, but that's because they don't see us sail. On the sea, you're disciplined, or you're dead."

He smiled ruefully. "Of course, since that's not the case when we're on shore, some Mantis get a bit... rowdy."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"Y'cut loose where ya can, when ya can."

[Shiba Jiro]

"I imagine that being on duty for days or weeks at a time would stress anyone out. No onsens or geisha houses at sea," he says with a smirk. "Enough to really exhaust a person I imagine."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"That's where th' filthy songs'n th' skylarkin' come in."

[Shiba Jiro]

"Fun where you can find it?" he asks with a smirk. "Have to make the most of our opportunities. Even the people on shore. Never know if you're going to end up too busy or distracted otherwise."

[Funegao no Hirame]

"Right... but not always." Hirame said, clearing his throat. "We do like to maintain some discipline while on shore. What do you think, Kasumi-san?" He looked directly at her, eyebrows raised. Really, it was all the same to him; if he wasn't acting as a chaperone, he'd just tell them to get a room...

He shrugged. "But yeah, it's tough. But at the same time, every day is like an adventure." He chuckled. "An adventure where you're always crowded and wet, but still..."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"Oh, we keep our discipline, but... we also keep a weather out for opportunity, wouldn't ya say?"

[Shiba Jiro]

"Well, with two lookouts here, I imagine that watching for opportunities is second nature for both of you. Spotting the interesting thing that doesn't move with the normal flow?" he asks, and suggests.

[Funegao no Hirame]

Hirame spread his hands. "Hey, if that's how you wanna do it. I mean, everyone does their looking out differently." He looked casually away. "And I'm not gonna tell another lookout how she should or shouldn't do things."

He turned his attention back to his meal. "Just be careful, I guess." He said. "With opportunities and all that."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"Always an element'a risk in anythin' worth doin'. But yes."

She actually enunciated the last word properly. Not "aye," not "yeah."

"Some risks're a mite steep."

[Shiba Jiro]

"Life is a big risk, no? Each step a chance for good or bad things to happen," he says. "Each bite an opportunity to enjoy the flavor or choke on your food." He illustrates by taking a bite of his curry.

[Funegao no Hirame]

"Well... there's risks and there's risks." Hirame said, frowning thoughtfully. "I mean, lots of things could be a risk. Don't coil that rope. Chop vegetables with your left hand. Throw food at Big Mo. He's really big." Hirame explained.

"But I don't want to use up all my luck on the little things." Hirame went on. "I want to make sure I've got plenty of luck for the big things! When fate's really watching, you know!" He grinned. "Fate, and possibly my captain, and maybe someone good at telling stories. But you know what I mean."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"Worst comes t'worst, I'll just tell everyone about th'size'a your heart. Only with a dramatic pause t'make 'em wonder what I'm gonna say."

[Shiba Jiro]

"Let them all know he has a towering... intellect?" he says with a smirk.

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"An'a massive... sense'a duty."

[Shiba Jiro]

"Though he can be a handful."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"And been known t'leave a mess..."

[Shiba Jiro]

Jiro chuckled at that. "Bet he expects others to take care of that mess too."
