(D4, EA) Supply Run

[Kakita Yuji]

Kakita Yuji had already visited some of the more traditional shops, but one never knew if there might be that one thing that you didn't have on the list that you actually needed. He held on tightly to his purchases as a sudden breeze whipped around trying to playful snatch anything you didn't have a solid hold on. Hopefully, the winds would be similarly playful in a couple days. It would be much harder if they were not.

There was another looking around for supplies. He'd already gotten the important things from the forest, but a little lacquer and some sandpaper would be useful for finishing.

Also, maybe a bit of paint for something else, and a bit of thread and needles...

He noticed Yuji among the crowds and waved him over when there was a mutual notice.

Yuji noticed the hail and made his way over to the Phoenix with his parcels.

He offered a bow.

"Good afternoon, Shiba-san. Very pleasant to run into you on this windy day. How does it find you?" he said pleasantly.

"It's a good one," he says with a nod. "I collected some fine wood earlier for some carving, but i would like to pick up a few supplies that I can use for finishing. Oils, lacquer, sandpaper and the like."

"I'm out looking for similar. Colorful ribbons, strings and the like. Quite a lot of the supplies will come from the academy, but it's nice to fine those special touches outside the schools normal issue, you know?" he replies.

"I prefer to collect and refine all my own materials from nature when possible, personally. It's going to be harder to find the time after gempukku though. Is it a surprise, what you are making? Or maybe like me you are not completely sure yet?"

"Kites" he revealed. "Were you not informed of the upcoming celebration, Shiba-san? Word was supposed to be spread to all the competitors."

"Oh, yes. It was, I just was thinking you were about other things like potentially gifts or some other artistic creation. Was not considering the festival," he replied with a nod.

"Have you gotten many entries for your project yet?"

Yuji considered that.

"Hmm a decent number. The Phoenix competitors have been very helpful in this matter. Some have already submitted and others have promised. I'm really anticipating Isawa Natsuko-san contribution. I have a feeling it will be quite beautiful." he offered.

"I'm glad to hear it. I look forward to seeing what everyone has written." He smiles as he moves to look for the supplies he came for.

"So what are the possibilities for your project, Shiba-san?" he asked, curious about the Phoenix's own artistic intentions.

"So, I have several that I wish to work on. Later I will likely start on something smaller. Some carving of netsuke or maybe fan decoration. But I still have to put some thought into the larger piece that I intend. It will be more involved," he says.

"Something for my betrothed, something for new friends... there's a lot actually. Each will need it's own considerations."

"A thing I understand well, Shiba-san. A gift of art is a precious one indeed. You want to make sure it expresses you feelings accurately."

"Yes. I am not entirely certain what will be best for some, but I have an idea of what I would do for Natsuko-san. Though that will be a surprise for her."

Yuji considered that while rebalancing the packages he held.

"Hmm, well I am happy to help, Shiba-san, if you want any feedback on what might be best for a person." he offered.

"Well. Im interested in perhaps making something for Shosuro Kaoru-san. I'd also like to make something for Saito. We have not spoken really, but I appreciate the work he has done at the shrine. And... well, I think I will figure out Kasumi-san later. Kuroneko-san too."

[Kakita Yuji]

Yuji nodded.

"Hmmm, I see. Shiba-san, I don't think you've told me this, and I apologize if you have and I've forgotten, but what arftforms do you tend to work in?" he asked.

"With any that use my hands. Including things that aren't actually artwork like carpentry and masonry. I studied a wide field rather than focused so that I could create larger inclusive projects."

Yuhi nodded.

"Hmmm. From what I know of her, Shosuro Kaoru has very high standards indeed. One wonders if she might have a Kakita in her family somewhere. She also posses a very sharp tongue and is keen to use it on things that do not meet her standards. So you would want to go with something of exceptional quality if you are going with commonly practiced arts or something that is socially acceptable but in which she lacks enough knowledge of to critique. She does, after all, hold her criticism to her own high standards. Perhaps there is something that is more of a Phoenix tradition in the arts, some local specialty that Shiba-san can draw upon?"

[Shiba Jiro]

"I mean, I'm not trying to challenge her to an artistic competition," he replies with a chuckle. "I suspect that even what I have said though, I have similar standards. I have been known to throw away multiple attempts that I dislike. I just, have a great deal of patience to work past a hundred mistakes to make proper creation. If I had more focus on an individual art I might only need to throw away 10 before I got it right."
