The Laughing Carp received significant renovations and expansions after the Topaz Championship of 1121. It is now a hub system, similar to Kyuden Doji, where around a central building, 8 distinct lodging houses have been built.
In order to avoid the embarrasment of someone not being able to secure lodging as a competitor or observer of the Topaz Championship. Especially after what happened to the champion of 1121.
