(D6, EA) Party: Children's Stories (Library)

Post by Kakita Yuji » Thu Nov 25, 2021 7:19 am

(Note: There are other events in the other areas of the Academy, posted by other Crane PCs, this is not the single party thread).

A small niche of the library had been carved out for storytelling. Comfortable cushions arranged in a circle would make for a rather cozy audience. Tea was at the ready, and a small box of freshly made monaka was at hand to give out in gratitude to the storytellers who would assemble.

Kakita Yuji bowed to those who entered and explained the proceedings.

"Greetings lovers of literature. This afternoon I am pleased to host a small telling of short stories of small people Yes, today's theme for storytelling is all about children, in honor of Kisshoten. Every clan's children are shaped different by their clan, both in surroundings and upbringing. And so let us celebrate the future with stories about children." he offered.

With that, he surrendered the center of the cushions to explain things to late comers and hand out monaka. Thus the center was ready for the first of the day's storytellers.

(Rules: You may make a single Performance (Any) at TN 1 to tell a story about children. All who participate are awarded two pieces of plum blossom monaka. The best storyteller judged in order of: Most Successes, Most Opportunities, Least Strife, Highest Status, Highest Glory, Highest Honor, First Poster. will receive four pieces of plum blossom monaka. This is a informal event, so feel free to chat, comment on stories, and just enjoy yourself)

Kuroneko likes stories, and perhaps he should tell one. He bows at Yuji. "I hope Inari has blessed you today." He think about his repertoire of stories to tell. He's got one.
Kuroneko cleared his throat.
"This is a story about a fox who liked to frolic in the snow. One day, the fox found a black coal looking thing in the snow. The fox poked it with its nose and it mew. It was a black cat that was dying. The fox couldn't leave it there so it carry the coal cat to its den.

The kitten was almost frozen and the warmth of the fox that stayed at its side made the kitten better. They cuddled together just keeping each other company. The kitten cough and seemed not very well. The fox couldn't let its new friend die so it brought coal kitten food and water. Slowly the kitten started to feel better.

A few days passed, the fox and the kitten started to venture out into the world together. The kitten was strong enough to learn how to fend for itself and the fox taught it what it knew. The kitten learned how to hunt and frolic in the snow. The snow started to melt and the fox and the kitten still were friends. Humans started to hunt in the wilds of the fox and the cat's forest." Dramatic pause. "The two were in danger from these human hunters. The fox found another fox but somewhat different."

It was a wonderful story so far, and Yuji made sure to pay special attention to the Phoenix's telling. What new twist to the story would the second fox bring? Yuji patiently listened while he served to any other nameless guests who listened to the story.

Kuroneko smiled as the children looked at him with interest. "This new fox knew the dangers of the humans can bring because it had lost its partner when they were attacked by humans. The new fox tried its best to teach the cat and the fox to hide.

One day, they were taken by surprise as a hunter knocked an arrow through the black cat." Dramatic pause.

Yuji blinked. Well that was.....certainly a surprising twist to the story. While it was certainly shocking, he had to wonder what it would mean for the story.

"Shiba san, don't let the kitty die..." One of the children commented

"Come on... That poor kitten has the worst of lucks." Another said out loud.

Kuroneko chuckled as Kiba appeared next to him. He patted the black cat and placed it on his lap. "Well... The black cat is wounded, and the fox was sad. The black kitten is like its child, and it doesn't want to lose it. It started to lick the wound where the arrow had hit. New fox picked the kitten up gingerly and started to run. The first fox followed behind.

They got to a shrine where they met a young Maiden with the most amazing red hair and shining golden eyes. The fox placed the kitten on her lap. It had lost a lot of blood. There wasn't much time left." Another dramatic pause.

Yuji was slightly surprised at the story's turn of events. He would have thought that the hunter seeing the error leading to the kitten's wounding would have helped, or that one of the foxes would take the shot meant for the cat. Still, the addition of the young maiden that sounded like a Kitsu was a very promising turn of events for the story, not matter which way it went.

"Shiba sama!" A girl was on the verge of tears. "Don't let kitty die!" The Shiba smiled.
"Well they were in luck because the maiden was actually a shugenja and she healed the kitten's wound. As she was performing the incantation the hunter had tracked down the foxes to the shrine. The two growled protectively about to attack the man. He looked at where he was and the beautiful maiden that was healing the cat that he had wounded.

He dropped his bow in awe as the lady finished her incantation. This was no ordinary shugenja. The woman glared at the hunter and he was struck by a gust of wind. He wasn't welcomed near this shrine for his deed.

The cat made it but it was in a poor state of health. The fox was worried but the other fox wasn't because it knew who this person was. She had healed it before. The maiden petted the new fox and smiled at the other. She enjoyed the company of these three. She kept a warry eye on the black cat since it had lost a lot of blood even if the wound was closed by the kami the health is now on the hands of the heavens." Kuroneko sighed.
