I am trained to use all manner of polearms despite them being difficult to use when serving as a yojimbo and not allowed in a duel. It is an oddity of our culture for sure."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"Wait, you use... whatsitcalled, a naginata?"

[Shiba Haru]

"Yes though we are taught how to use a yari as well. It's not practical for defending a shugenja in castle hallway but get enough of them in a line and it's a bad day for whoever is attacking into it. Most mainland fighting takes place in wide open spaces."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"Doesn't give much incentive t'let you guys get an open space 'round you."

[Shiba Haru]

"Are you looking for ways to defeat me in war when I have been trying to spread peace?" he asked with mock accusation.

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

She batted her eyes, all innocence.

"Well. I am a Mantis."

[Shiba Haru]

"You know, I really hope whoever ends up betrothed to you has the good sense not to try and cage you. You may be the freest soul here."

Upon hearing his own words something clicks in Haru's mind.

"Thught that was a Unicorn thing? In all th'pillowbooks, anyhow..."

[Shiba Haru]

"I don't think any of my books featured a Unicorn."

This was a lie as several of his books have Otaku in them.

"But you do see freer than most, especially here despite your misgivings about this place. I think that's what he likes about you."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"Well. I'm what life has made me, Shiba-san, same's everyone else. If that works out well, so much th'better."

[Shiba Haru]

"Life it seems to have made something truly special out of you, I am seeing that more and more."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"Aye, well, y'should take a trip ona Mantis ship, you wanna see 'special.'"

[Shiba Haru]

"If that an offer? I can start working on my sea-legs now if so."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"Well, y'never know..."

She sighed.

"Might need ya for ballast."

[Shiba Haru]

"I'm good at floating, you could always cling to me if something happens."

He shifted in his seat slightly.

"So you never answered me about the end of event gathering."

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"What about it?"

[Shiba Haru]

"Is that something you think you would attend? Drinks, raucous behavior, limited risk of punishment? Our last night together as a group probably forever?"

[Yukikaze no Kasumi]

"I reckon we'll see. Th'Crane party might be more'n I can stand, t'tell th'truth."

[Shiba Haru]

"Well I'm not going to twist you arm though I hope you will join us."

Haru reached behind him and retrieved his koto, placing it before him.

"You said you enjoy music yes? I haven't played in a while, hopefully I remember this piece correctly."

After all, it was a pretty traditional one.

So much so that, recalling her father teaching it to her, she joined in with her voice, singing quietly, but clearly.
