(D3, EE) Hail to the Chef

[Kakita Yuji]

Hirame frowned. "But I don't know the first thing about poetry. Or, barely the first thing. Five-seven-five, that's a haiku, right?" Hirame made a face. "I don't know, are you sure you want a poem from someone who's not a poet?"

He tilted his head, regarding the Crane curiously. "How many have said yes so far, anyway?"

Yuji did a quick mental count.

"Oh, I've collected about a dozen so far, with promises of about another half dozen or so to come." he decided upon. "But consider these three points, Mantis-san. Poetry is something that is expected of a samurai. You are in one of the finest places in the world to learn poetry. And you can never write a second poem if you talk yourself out of writing a first."

[Funegao no Hirame]

"Is that so?" Hirame tilted his head, considering for a moment. But only a moment. "I accept!" He said smiling.

He shrugged. "I still know very little about poetry, but I suppose I'll have to do my best. I'll get you your two poems. Initial impressions and final impressions, huh?" Hirame chuckled. "How very appropriate."

"Is that so?" Hirame tilted his head, considering for a moment. But only a moment. "I accept!" He said smiling.

He shrugged. "I still know very little about poetry, but I suppose I'll have to do my best. I'll get you your two poems. Initial impressions and final impressions, huh?" Hirame chuckled. "How very appropriate."

Yuji smiled.

"I'm glad you approve, Mantis-san." he said, glad of the man's acceptance. "Might I ask what are your other hobbies or favored arts? Surely not everyone moment is dedicated to sailing and sailing alone."

"No, of course not. There's lots of time that the ship's just kinda floating along. Sometimes we've gotta study or do drills or stuff like that." Hirame shrugged. "But sometimes all the sailors get together, form a ring. Some people play music, some sing. Some do both! And some dance. Climbing around ropes all day every day gives you some serious moves!" He grinned.

Another shrug. "Life on a ship is like that. You're always around people, and they're always doing stuff. It's fun." Hirame nodded.

Yuji nods.

"Ah yes, I came across your fellow Mantis singing. It was...very energetic, quite different from the music I am used to. So which is it for you, Mantis-san? Singing, playing, dancing, or some combination therof?" he asked.

Smiling, Hirame spread his hands. "Whichever the mood strikes me to do!" He said. "I have a set of drums. I haven't studied them extensively, but they're drums. You bang on them and they make a sound." He shrugged.

"What about yourself, Kakita-san?" Hirame asked. "Music or otherwise."
