[LM10] - 1st Round Duels - Kitsuki Jun v. Akodo Michi

The four dueling pistes have been diagrammed onto the training ground floor of the Kakita Dueling Academy.

A judge, Kakita Toshimoko, stands at the center line, as the two contestants make their way to the ready positions.

[Kitsuki Jun]

Jun squares up to his mark, the sunlight filtering through the sliding window panels striking subtle gleams off the dark green brocade of his very best silk kamishimo. He's tense--a tension visible in the tendons of his right hand as it hovers above the grip of his bokken--but appears cool and calm as he bows to the observers and to Akodo Michi.

"An honor to face you here, Akodo-san."

The young Lion approached and took her place across from Jun. She followed suit with bowing to Toshimoko, and then to her opponent. Her head was clear, any outcome was acceptable as this Kitsuki seemed an honorable sort.

"Kitsuki-san, let us honor our ancestors", she responded, then took her stance, balanced all on her back leg, her front foot barely touching the ground.

With the faintest scrunch of straw, Jun's back foot shifts on the tatami as his right hand lights on the handle of the bokken and brings it up into the ready position. One-handed--a rather Mirumoto-style draw.

His stance might have a hint of Mirumoto in it, but the level intensity with which his clear brown eyes scrutinize Michi's every breath is all Kitsuki.

With a steady exhale, the Lion's stance became grounded and their bokken came to hand in a ready defense. She had baited, but the Kitsuki proved as wise as she had hoped.

Jun's stance shifted again, and for a moment it appeared as though the Akodo would proceed on the offensive. The Kitsuki's bokken flew out however, yet it did not have the edge required to be a telling blow.

The Lion's eyes met Jun's in that moment, and she winked at him, telling him a tale that fate was about to be quite unkind.

Putting precision into her stroke, Michi's bokken went under Jun's guard swiftly. Though she was careful to only apply what was needed for the task. the blow was swift and sharp, but not truly savage. The wooden weapon cracked like a whip off the Kitsuki's ribs as Michi stepped past him.

Jun reverses his grip on his bokken not-quite-fast-enough, tension tangling the lines of communication somewhere between his brain and his hands. He misses the motion to deflect, so Michi's wooden sword bops him solidly in the flank.

Jun glances to Toshimoko, and at the judge's nod, straightens his stance (biting down on a strangled Grhh sound--he's definitely going to have a that bruise for a while) and bows. "Your match, Akodo-san."

He then bows much more deeply to the stands where a certain divine personage is seated, watching the two of them.

Turning around the Akodo returned Jun's bow respectfully. "You have done me a great honor, Kitsuki-san, and I am grateful. Thank you for the match."
