Having not gained ground on the thief from speed alone Ichiro shifted their approach their determination unthwarted. If they weren't going to outrun the thief they could outlast them - and outplan them. The Shiba disappears for a moment, down a side street, and for a few seconds may seem out of the chase entirely, until they reappear again, much further ahead, having used the less roads to cut the distance between them and their quarry.

Urusai pushes himself just a bit more, trying to touch the stillness of his Family and School and seeing in that moment one more thing he can do.

"You, by the cabbages, back up your cart!" he calls out--and the merchant does so, closing off one more avenue of escape for the thief.

Maybe it will be enough for the others to stop him.

It was too late for the Thief. Cornered, it was only a matter of time before the yoriki working for Asahina Tenshin, and the Topaz contestents, to have him apprehended. One of the Yoriki would find the group of young Samurai.

"Thank you for your help. This would not have been possible without it. Your quick thinking showed why your Clans felt it was appropriate for you to represent them at this tournament." As the other yoriki carted off the Thief, he dropped one of the items he had carried.

A ceramic statue, the design featuring a fearsome creature from a far off land. Long in neck, spotted, yet the legs of a horse.

The long neck broke as it crashed to the ground... revealing a small sac, that spilled its contents when the jagged edge of the ceramic cut it.

A fine white powder. The Thief's eyes went wide, and he looked terrified, before the Yoriki carried him off.

Outcome
The Thief was caught! Those who participated in apprehending him gain 3 glory.

And for acting in a manner befitting Samurai, each also gain 5 honor.

Masaru followed the thief's eyes to the dropped statue and saw the curious white powder and also noted the man's reaction. The Lion moved toward it and wanted to inspect it further possibly collect it if he could so he might bring it to Tenshin.

[Seppun Urusai]

"Yoriki-sama!" Urusai calls out. "This might be of interest to you!"

Then, to the Kitsu, Urusai says "Be wary, friend. There has been harm caused by such things recently. I'd hate to face you at less than your best in the contest."

Because Seppun gonna Seppun, and Lion gonna Lion.
