After a while, the panther darted forward to attempt the pounce. Which, in this case, was a quick, ferocious sideways strike. "Kiai!", the girl yelled in a surprisingly deep, loud voice.

Kasumi sidestepped, bringing her off-hand weapon up to fend the strike aside, while launching a jab with the other.

Aya didn't quite expect defence and attack to come so quickly one after another, but she manages to spin just in time to avoid the jab, taking another step back and shifting her sword and footing to a guarding position in a swiftly flowing movement.

"Good form!", she says, apparently at the same time excited and serious.

Of course, the counterpoint was that the shorter weapons meant that any effort to actually get at the Ikoma would mean stepping into range before being able to engage.

So Kasumi circled around, still keeping a broadly defensive posture herself.

The answer got a nod and a slight grin from Aya, but for now she kept circling around as well. Would Kasumi try to approach at some point?

Kasumi bounced on the balls of her feet- then threw one of the practice wakizashi at the lion, charging in behind it with her remaining weapon at the ready.
