Re: GM Questions
Question regarding Topaz points.
Will there be a minimum number of points needed to earn your gempukku? Only three people per event can earn Topaz points if I am reading your post correctly and I worry about what happens if 4-5 people dominate all the events and a lot of people are left with zero at the end.

The assumption of the game is - y'all are going to graduate. You're all the best and brightest of a new generation of Samurai.Shiba Haru wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 4:17 amQuestion regarding Topaz points.

I'm not interested in telling the story of failing gempukku. That's not the drama we're going for here.
I don't know where I read it, but I always liked "the point of the Topaz Championship isn't the Topaz Championship."
This is a game about the first time people from different clans are being put into an environment where maybe they're meeting their peers in other clans for the first time.
If we're talking Historical Fiction to Anime Fantasy as a spectrum, we're leaning more towards the Anime Fantasy/Studio Ghibli side.

Re: GM Questions
I'm guessing we'll get a more specific ruling on Fatigue and Critical Strikes later, but to keep this in mind:
- Strife recovers to 0 after sleep and resets to half maximum after each slot if it's higher. Is there any specific ruling on how to use Passions to recover Strife during the day? Or will they be activated only in events or specifically by the GM? Any other activities that might reduce strife during the day?
- Void resets to half maximum at the start of each day. Any specific rulings on how to use Adversities or Anxieties to recover void? Or also only in events? Or on a case-by-case basis per GM decisions?
- Fatigue resets to half maximum after each slot if it's higher, I'm guessing? And you recover 2 x your Water after sleeping if you sleep enough? Other than that, the usual First Aid (Action, once only before more complete treatment) and Treatment (as a Downtime activity) on pg. 157 - and that's it? Any other rules for recovering Fatigue?
- Critical Strikes - If I'm reading the RAW right, the only ways to recover would be bed rest with Fitness TN 3 (Wounded ring without penalties) or Medicine TN 4 (Water), each once per week - which would mean twice during the game. Lightly wounded can be healed with PtiP, but not Severely. Should we expect any other sources of healing to be available, or any change to the frequency with which the tests will be allowed?
Re: GM Questions
Strife - Passions aren't really a rolling thing. That is do the thing, take 3 off. I'll say you can engage in a Passion once per day, per passion. If this goes bananas, I'll adjust to just one Passion per day.Ikoma Aya wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 6:09 pmI'm guessing we'll get a more specific ruling on Fatigue and Critical Strikes later, but to keep this in mind:

Other forms - make friends with people who can mitigate strife. We won't be creating an all new way to dump strife, as a lot of techniques and school abilities play with strife.
Fatigue - handled like recovering composure. If there sre techs that help with it, that's the only other way, see above.
Void - anxieties and adversities are times that are dramatically appropriate. I will have which are triggered in each event. No, can't fluff roll to trigger them.
Dice rolling should only be during times of drama.
Critical Strikes - amend to once per session v. Once per week.

1) For Fatigue - recovering after resting and with p. 157 Treatment and First Aid can still happen though?
2) For 'Dice rolling only during times of drama' - I'd suggest, as some have on Discord, allowing rolls for RP purposes, but no VP recovery coming from them. Would that be acceptable? It'd still make folks accrue fatigue and strife, but I think that's ok (and provides some sort of consequence for doing things!).
Thanks again!
Re: GM Questions
1.) Yes. Same as composure. Normal healing for fatigue is as RAW.Ikoma Aya wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 8:41 pm

Does that mean there's no opportunity spending (other than towards tiebreaking) in events unless otherwise noted?

Re: GM Questions
Follow-up to this - not even the 'general' opportunities listed for each approach? (meaning - those not specific to combat, e.g. 'General examples', on Core Book page 328, and/or 'Other skill examples' on Core Book page 329)Shiba Ichiro wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 11:24 pmFrom Discord so it doesn't get lost or not seen by our non-Discord folks:

Any "library" in town we can visit? I.e. places where we can access books we not necessarily carry on us at all time (these things are heavy). Not necessarily rare books, just the classic any samurai is supposed to have at least heard of (Leadership, Lies, Ninten, etc.).
