(D6, LA) Party: Hold it! (Pool)

(Note: There are other events in the other areas of the Academy, posted by other Crane PCs, this is not the single party thread).

Freshly changed into a yukata, and a box of freshly made monaka kept well away from the water, Kakita Yuji explained to the curious what sort of event the Crane were hosting at the pool.

"In honor of Kisshoten, we are offering this rather simple little children's game. If any of you have siblings like I do, you've competed before to see who can hold their breath the longest underwater, whether it's in the ocean, the river, or a bathhouse. It's just some good clean fun. I'll be here to time your attempts and make sure nothing tragic happens. When you're ready to leave, we have seashell monaka to take with you. I would recommend eating it outside, it's too nice to risk getting soaked.

With that he moved to explain things to latecomers, count people's attempts, and make sure no one drowned.

(Rules: You may make a single Fitness (Earth) check at TN 1 to attempt to hold your breath underwater as long as you can. Everyone who participates receives two pieces of seashell monaka. The person who holds their breath the longest, judged in order of: most successes, Most opportunities, Least Strife, Highest Status, Highest Glory, Highest Honor, First Post, receives four pieces instead. This is a informal event, so feel free to socialize and relax in the baths during your stay.)

Going to the pool to relax some between the other events in the Crane party, Aya's expression seems less severe than usual on seeing the Kakita from the other day standing there.

"Kakita-san", she says, bowing respectfully and properly (if a bit rigidly) despite the swimming garments. "I should have imagined as a local you would be involved in these events", she said, with a kind enough note to her voice that it sounded like an acknowledgement rather than a tirade. Probably.

Having settled herself in the pool, she decided to take a chance at the game proposed. She let herself sink in the water and held herself there, close to the bottom - or, well, at least as close as she could manage. Which wasn't that deep...

I... I remember when sis and I did this. She always beat me! I'll be sure to show I can do better. I'll be sure to show I'm good enough... good enough for her too!

As thoughts usually happen much faster than actual speech, our thoughts of time while we're doing something usually don't quite correspond to reality...

Right! Almost there... this should be almost good enough! Just a bit more, I'm sure I'm doing well! I HAVE to do well!

She kept almost wholly quiet while at that. For a long time.

Or so she thought.

Some twenty or thirty seconds after sinking in, she emerges at the surface again, shaking the water off her hair as a Lion would off their mane.

Or... a cat, maybe?

"There! How did I do?"

Yuji bowed on the Lion's entrance, and took her measure.

"Ah, quite well indeed, Ikoma-san. Be sure to take four pieces of the seashell monaka when you decide to leave in honor of your performance. It wouldn't react well if exposed to the water."
