[LM1] - Test of the Body
Posted: Thu Oct 28, 2021 7:47 pm
The morning sun shines down on the open training field of the Kakita Academy, as the first test of the Topaz Championship arrives. The gathered competitors are greeted by the towering figure of Hida Hikaru. Her face is without expression, other than the slight curl at the edge of the lips, a knowing smirk. A heavy, leather ball is tucked beneath an arm, her left hand resting upon her hip.
Her raven black hair is unkempt, slightly swaying in the wind.
"Good Morning, candidates!" Her voice is booming, as she tosses the ball high into the air. "Welcome to the Test of the Body. Where you will need to showcase your strength, both physical and in spirit!" The ball begins to fall as her commanding presence echoes out throughout the training grounds. "You will have to be grounded and firm, in order to truly show the strength of youth and samurai spirit!" She points to all of the candidates, before the ball falls just before her. A sudden movement, and her right foot shifts out, and a roundhouse kick is delivered to the ball.
It sails out in the air, away from her, to it's intended target, a hoop at the end of a tall post. "You will do just as I have. Who's up first!" She laughs, ready to judge.
Disadvantages that must be triggered once on a roll of the affected PCs choice: Bishamon's Curse [Water], Maimed (Any), Lackluster (Fire)
Magic is not allowed for this event
Scoring:
1 Body Point for a Basic Success
+1 Body Point for every 2 successes after the first,
+1 Body Point for using Hida Hikaru's favored approach, if successful on the initial roll.
Tiebreaker 1 - Opportunity on Kept Dice
Tiebreaker 2 - Strife on kept dice (whoever has the last amount of strife kept)
1st Place - 3 Topaz Points, 3 Glory
2nd Place - 2 Topaz Points, 2 Glory
3rd Place - 1 Topaz Point, 1 Glory
Step One: "Up into the air."
- Each candidate must hoist one of the weighted balls up into the air. It is heavier than a standard kemari ball, testing the physicality of each Topaz contender. This is a TN 2 Fitness Check.
Step Two: "Showboating!"
- It isn't enough to just be physically capable of throwing the ball in the air. One must put on a show, to showcase their strength of spirit in demonstrating their physical proess. This is a TN 2 Performance Check.
Step Three: "GOOOOOOOOOOAL!"
- The contender then has to finish the task, scoring a point in the game by launching the heavy ball across the field into the raised hoop. This demonstrates their ability to strike with hands, feet, or even their head as if fighting. This is a TN 2 Martial Arts [Unarmed] Check.
